Buffalo Springs Cemetery

The first courthouse in Kentucky was built on this

location in 1783.  During the Civil War, it was the site

of a Confederate encampment.  Today it is one of

the oldest cemeteries in Kentucky and contains

graves of many Revolutionary soldiers.

Baughman Mill

Built in the late 1800’s with logs from the first

steam mill in the county.  The building is

currently being restored, but is visible from

downtown and the L&N Depot.

Crab Orchard Cemetery & Civil War Monument

Twenty-one Confederate soldiers from Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Texas are buried atop Crab Orchard Hill surrounding the marble Confederate Monument.

Historic Immanuel Lutheran Church

Located in the planned settlement of Ottenheim, Kentucky the Immanuel Lutheran Church was built in 1886 to serve the small Swiss-German population of Ottenheim.  Recently restored, the church is open for tours (by appointment) and can be rented for special occasions.

See where the L&N Railroad once stopped

 in Stanford and learn about its history at

the beautifully restored L&N Depot & Museum.

Isaac Shelby Cemetery State Historic Site

Situated on Isaac Shelby’s farm, Traveler’s Rest, the first and fifth governor once described the scenery as “the most beautiful land he had ever seen.”

Logan’s Fort

McCormack Christian Church and Cemetery

Erected in 1819 with brick kilned on the site.  McCormack Christian Church was known as “The Church” because everyone, including slaves, were welcome to worship here.  Services held every Sunday.

Old Presbyterian Meeting House & Museum

The Presbyterian meeting house was originally built in the 1790’s to serve one of the first Presbyterian congregations in Kentucky.  It has since been restored and now contains artifacts related to the early settlement of Stanford and life in the 1800’s.  Open Wednesday, 9 - 5pm; Thursday, 9 - 12:30pm.

William Whitley House & Sportsman’s Hill - State Historic Site

Come see the first brick house west of the Allegheny Mountains, and see where William Whitley “Turned Racing Around” with the first counter-clockwise racetrack in America - opposite of how the British ran horse races.  Shelter available for meetings and events.
